Did your parents know how to make a household budget? What did they formally teach you about making a budget?
Not much? Nothing? That's what I thought.
What did they teach you with their actions about how to make a household budget? To fight about money? To worry about money?
We all learned about money by what we saw our parents do, which wasn't much more than worry and fight.
That's a lousy education.
What if you gave your child or teen a better education? Where would they be at your age if they knew how to plan their spending?
Much better off!
It's up to you to show your kids everything you are learning about budgeting.
If he/she is a Budget Nerd, then be sure you can answer all of his/her questions.
If he/she is a Free Spirit, then set a timer for 10 minutes. That's about all the attention you'll get.
AND
If you are a Budget Nerd, then be extra patient and have your Free Spirit spouse by your side to help.
If you are a Free Spirit, then put on your grown-up hat, set the timer for 10 minutes, and keep your Budget Nerd spouse close so you can ask him/her questions.
